Synopsis

What do Camorristi, murderers and robbers do after a whole life of crime and prison? Do they retire? The ones who survive – the few – what do they become? Elderly grandparents? Wealthy pensioners? Old folk playing cards in OAP centres? In reality, the lives of the retired murderers, of Camorristi released after 30 years in prison, robbers who have been in and out of jail until well past the onset of old age, have some incredible and surprising stories to tell.

Dangerous Old People deals with a new aspect of crime, that is, the criminal who has survived their crimes and convictions. Life after life, in a sense. Everything they have lost or never lived, what happened to them and what they chose to do; desperation that becomes resignation, a few years of activity and years and years inside.

Filmed in Naples, the series tells the story of elderly criminals, chosen from among former Camorristi and robbers, in short, from the criminal milieu. The survivors of bloody feuds and
decades in prison, veterans of existences made up of gun battles and wounds, they tell us about their lives and actions, demonstrating, after so many mistakes and so much suffering, maybe even an unexpected wisdom.

The four 50-minute programmes examine respectively the childhood, youth, maturity and old age, or present, of our protagonists. Because only by following their path from being
street urchins to juvenile delinquents to savage criminals to prison inmates is it possible to understand who they are today and how they managed to survive life and themselves.

Each episode is enriched by an invaluable introduction by Roberto Saviano who will describe the years in which our “Dangerous Old People” were criminals, accompanying the audience through the labyrinth of their lives, the city and the prisons in which they were consumed.
