Synopsis

Mario is 8 years old and is considered a “difficult child”. The juvenile court has taken him away from his natural family to protect him and give him a chance. Giulia and Sandro are a happy couple, two upper-class forty year-olds satisfied on the appearance; they are not married and have been living together for two years when they decide to ask for the custody of a child. The temporary custody is a chance for all three of them to confront two very different realities. Giulia falls madly in love with her new position as a punitive mother. She lives a marvellous rebirth, discovering a new enthusiasm and reigniting her long forgotten feminine side. Sandro remains an outsider, curious and intimidated by the changes. Mario finds himself projected in a world totally strange to him. He has a room all to himself, a computer and a huge terrace immersed amongst geraniums and magnolias, from which he can see the sea, he can nearly touch it. An environment which is the opposite to that in which he has lived up to now, but all this is not enough to alleviate his sense of solitude and uninvolvement. To save himself he finds refuse in his own world, rich with suggestions, like that of a child’s, who is searching for himself with difficulty and that crosses the needs and miseries of adult “strangers”. In this world he meets Shad-sky, an imaginary play-mate constructed in his mind. Mario, Giulia and Sandro’s journey they make to try and live together is difficult and painful. Giulia and Sandro, blend into another story, one with another conscience and a different life. Mario now is only 9 years old.
